Conventions are Detective Joe McCormick’s least favorite obligation. However, he is scheduled to lead several seminars on undercover work. This time, there’s a minor glitch. The hotel has booked two conventions at the same time and did not put any restrictions on the number of attendees for either. Meaning, he had to share a room. And the name is familiar: Arnie Baxter. Probably the son of an officer he worked with several years ago, Arnold. Arnie is already asleep, bundled to his ears, so Joe uses the bathroom to change.
Except Arnie isn’t Arnold’s son.
They’re both stunned when Joe emerges to discover a woman gaping at him from the other bed. Without thinking, Arnette Baxter registered for the convention by the name she has been called most of her life. And the hotel has assumed Arnie is male.
No other accommodation is available the following morning when Joe checks at the front desk. To avoid her fellow officers learning of the mix-up by making a fuss, the pair decides to stay put. After all, they are not required to spend the entire time together.
